The Sarasota County Commissioners and the Sarasota City government have reached agreement to raise the current 3% tax on short term vacation rentals in Sarasota to 4%. The increase is expected to bring in an additional $1.2 million per year which will be used to increase tourism marketing and to pay down the $54 million bond posted for the new baseball spring training facility & stadium. The economic impact of the new statdium has been estimated to be in the area of $100 million annually.
