February sales were up 28 percent over January. The Sarasota Multiple Listing Service indicates that there were 423 sales in February and only 329 sales in January 2008. Share

On Tuesday, the Federal Reserve lowered the benchmark interest rate by three-quarters of a percentage point. With the rate now at 2.25% and sales activity climbing, the Sarasota/Bradenton market is showing clear signs of improvement. Noted economist Hank Fishkind projects that Sarasota’s population will continue to grow. His projections for 2008 predict an increase of 5,081 people over the 2007 total of 385,663. This past Sunday over 2,400 people ran in Sarasota’s 3rd annual Marathon. In addition to the many local athletes that ran the race, participants came from 43 states and 7 countries. The winner was Tomas Lepp from Sweden. He completed the 26 mile in 2 hours and 51 minutes. Share
